Waikato Yacht Squadron Inc.

An introduction to the Waikato Yacht Squadron

Our first and foremost objective is to encourage and support safe family sailing - both cruising and racing. The Squadron began in 1968 as the Waikato Trailer Yacht Squadron and in 1990 changed its name to embrace a growing number of keel boat owners. Today it provides a club focus for around 80 boat owning members and their families and our first multihull yacht.

Nearly all sailing activities are based in the Hauraki Gulf and originate either from Kawakawa Bay where the Squadron operates a secure trailer yacht parking area, or Pine Harbour Marina where most Keelers are moored.

Our monthly social meeting, Nog n Natter, is held in the Hamilton Yacht Club from 7:30 PM on the fourth Tuesday of every month. These meetings aim to be informative on all aspects of sailing and Squadron affairs. Usually there is a guest speaker.

Prospective members (who need not own a yacht) are welcome to attend prior to their nomination for membership.

The Squadron is affiliated to Yachting New Zealand (YNZ) through the Waikato-Thames Yachting Association. We are also affiliated to the New Zealand Trailer Yacht Association (NZTYA). Whenever possible we support and participate in the activities of kindred clubs e.g. Pine Harbour Cruising Club, Ngaroto Boating Club and Maraetai Sailing club.

New - Facebook Group

We are changing  our Facebook page to a group
https://www.facebook.com/groups/555473981318062/
With the old page you had to sign into Facebook as the Waikato Yatch Squadron to be able to post pictures etc.
With the new group you just need to  request to become a member and once approved you can post or comment as you like.
Great for seeing who else is going to out and about or to ask for advice
